Why I Choose to Stay Small: The Solopreneur Advantage at Michael Coury Tech

There was a time when my life looked very different. I ran a company with over 100 employees, multiple layers of management, and enough overhead to keep me up at night. Then the Great Recession hit, and the entire world changed.

If I’m being honest, I would have never chosen that change on my own. Watching something you built so big get knocked down was tough. But looking back now, it was the best thing that could have happened. It gave me the chance to rebuild my professional life on my own terms—and to focus on what really matters.

Staying Small Means Staying Focused

When you’re running a big company, the clients—your real reason for being in business—start to feel like they’re behind layers of glass. I spent most of my time managing people, putting out fires, and keeping the machine running. There was little room to simply serve.

Today, Michael Coury Tech is the exact opposite. I’m a solopreneur, which means when you call me, you get me. No middle management, no voicemail maze, no layers to work through. Just one person whose only focus is helping you make your Apple technology work seamlessly for your life.

And with screen sharing, it’s easier than ever. In most cases, I can connect directly to your Mac, iPhone, or iPad while you sit comfortably at home. You see everything I’m doing in real-time, and I can walk you through solutions as we go. This approach saves you time, travel, and money—and it allows me to keep my services very affordable.

Flexibility is My Superpower

Apple moves fast. New devices, software updates, and changes to the ecosystem happen constantly. Big companies can feel like cruise ships trying to change direction—they’re slow to react.

I’m more like a Jetski on the water right here in Orange County. I can pivot instantly, adjust, and ride whatever wave Apple sends our way. That agility is a huge advantage for my clients—you get the very latest solutions and support without waiting for a big organization to catch up.

Why I’ll Never Go Back

The Great Recession forced me to take a hard look at my work and my life. And in that shake-up, I realized that bigger isn’t better if it takes you away from the people you’re supposed to serve.

I get to live and work in one of the most beautiful places in the world. My office is just minutes from the beach, and I love that my business gives me the freedom to actually enjoy the lifestyle we’re all chasing here in Orange County. Most importantly, I get to work directly with clients every day—helping them stay confident, connected, and in control of their technology.

Screen sharing, small business flexibility, and a true client-first mindset… this is the model I’ll stick with. Staying small isn’t about limiting growth. It’s about staying focused on the right thing—you.
