Where Do You Compute?
When it’s time for an upgrade, especially in retirement the most common question I hear is: “Should I get a MacBook or an iMac?”
MacBooks are incredibly popular because they’re thin, light, and portable. However, for many in retirement, the best place to "compute" is often at a dedicated desk with a powerful iMac. Since you are most likely no longer commuting to an office or needing to work from a coffee shop, I find that the benefits of a stationary setup often outweigh the need to move around.
The iMac Advantage
While a MacBook allows you to move from the kitchen to the couch, an iMac offers a level of comfort and clarity that is hard to beat:
• A large and clear Display: The iMac features a massive, high-resolution screen. Instead of squinting at a 13-inch MacBook, you get a spacious 24-inch display. This makes reading emails, organizing family photos, and browsing the web much easier on the eyes.
• Better Posture: Because the screen is elevated, you aren't hunched over a keyboard. Using a separate Magic Keyboard and Mouse at a desk is much kinder to your neck and back.
• Always Ready: An iMac stays plugged in and ready to go. You never have to hunt for a charging cable or worry about a battery dying in the middle of a FaceTime call or project.
The MacBook Lifestyle
Of course, if you travel frequently or love the idea of sitting on the patio with your morning coffee, a MacBook is a wonderful choice. It’s a powerhouse of a machine that gives you the freedom to take your digital life wherever you go.
Expert Support for Your Mac
Whether you choose the portability of a MacBook or the spacious screen of an iMac, I am here to make sure it works perfectly for you.
I offer a specialized screen sharing service that allows me to jump on your Mac and help you solve problems or learn new skills in real-time. While this service works beautifully on both models, the iMac is particularly great for our sessions. The larger screen allows us to see everything clearly, making our time together relaxed and very productive.
Which one fits your routine? If you’re trying to decide between the two, I’d be happy to help you pick the perfect Mac for your home.
